So, if you’re ready to have a great time in the streets, while simultaneously showing support for the LGBTQ community, you’ll definitely want to check this one out. Today, we’ll be diving into the details for the 2019 Denver PrideFest, and giving you access to all the info you’ll need to show up and have a great time.
Denver PrideFest, along with Denver Pride, the Coors Light Denver Pride Parade and the Pride 5K are all produced in conjunction with The Center on Colfax. In case you’re unaware, this organization, which opened in 1976, is now the largest LGBTQ community center in the whole of the Rocky Mountains, and has been dedicated, since its inception, to “giving [a] voice to Colorado's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community and playing a pivotal role in statewide initiatives to reduce harassment and discrimination.” June’s Denver Pride events a part of furthering their mission while providing some summer fun for the city of Denver.
Denver PrideFest (which is free to attend, mind you) will be taking place in and around historic Civic Center Park, part of the heart of Downtown Denver. You might want to download a map of the grounds and how they’ll be set up for the event so you know where everything will be located in advance, and remember, PrideFest is a two-day spectacular. On Saturday, June 15th, festivities will run from 11:00AM to 70:00PM. Then, on Sunday, June 16th, the action will take place from 10:00AM to 6:00PM.
Events & Entertainment
One of the main attractions for Denver PrideFest is the high quality music, dance, and live performance that takes place across three stages located at the festival: the Center Stage, the US Bank Latin Stage, and Smirnoff Dance World.
At the Center Stage, there will be a mix of bands, drag queens/kings, fashion shows, and dance, along with a few contests that get the audience into the mix as well. Emcee on this stage will be DeMarcio Slaughter, and experienced member of the stage who’s sure to keep things interesting. Be sure to click the link and check the schedule to see who’s on when, and which performers you’ll want to check out most.
The Latin Stage, as the name suggests, will have vibrant performances that give a nod to our rich latino community, encompass a mix of the classic and modern, and, naturally, showcase some electrifying dance moves that will get the crowd in the mood to move their bodies. The schedule for the Latin Stage has not yet been announced, but keep your eye on that link we posted, and you’ll be able to see those performers a bit closer to the date of Denver PrideFest.
Finally, Smirnoff Dance World will be all about booming DJ beats and hypnotic melodies that will get you moving. Among the headliners will be Lady Bunny and DJ Joe Gauthreaux, so you can expect a raucously energetic time here, and plenty of dance-centric fun to occupy your time. Again, performance schedules for this stage will be revealed a bit closer to those June 15th/16th dates.
Also taking “center stage” at the Denver Pride festivities will be the Coors Light Denver Pride Parade, which takes place on Sunday, June 16th at 9:30AM. Starting at Chessman Park, the parade will proceed down Franklin Street, then Colfax Avenue, before concluding near Civic Center Park and the site of the Denver PrideFest. Governor Jared Polis, the nation’s first openly gay governor, will serve as one of the five grand marshals leading the 2019 Coors Light Denver PrideFest Parade, and will be joined by “First Gentleman Marlon Reis, State Representative Brianna Titone, Mardi Moore, Executive Director of Out Boulder County and Drag Performer Peppermint.”
Rounding out the Denver Pride events will be the Denver Pride5K, a 5K run through the streets of Denver, taking place on Saturday, June 15th at 8:00AM. It will be a way for “supporters of The Center on Colfax to raise funds in support of our mission,” and, should you participate, a way for you to show some support for the LGBTQ community in Denver. Consider registering or donating to help this worthy cause.
