Want to know something incredible about living at the affordable apartments in Denver? Not too far from the city, there are amazing natural areas like Horsetooth Reservoir for you and friends to head out and explore. Ready to get out there and learn what Horsetooth is all about? Today we’ll be taking a look at this wonderful natural resource and everything it has to offer travelers and adventurers like yourself.

    The Wonders of Horsetooth Reservoir

The first thing you’ll need to know is that you won’t need to call this area “Horsetooth Reservoir” every single time you refer to it. Simply “Horsetooth” will do, and you’ll find it in Larimer County, just west of Fort Collins, Colorado. Getting there from Denver, it’s pretty much just a straight shot north for a 1.5-hour drive.

Once you’re at the Horsetooth Reservoir, what you’ll find is magical, it’s a body of water about 6.5 miles long, and nearly 1,900 acres of public land on which you can enjoy all manner of recreation, including fishing, boating, camping, picnicking, swimming, diving, climbing, and even water skiing. Beyond that, the reservoir serves a rather practical purpose as well:

“As part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project to divert water from the west slope to the east slope for drinking water, irrigation, and hydropower generation, the reservoir is jointly operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District who manage water levels for irrigation, municipal, and industry use.”

Now, if you want to enjoy what Horsetooth has to offer, you should know that you’ll be in good company. The area attracts more than half a million visitors each year, all looking to get their fill of the fine recreational activities that await. Boating and swimming are two of the most popular options, though swimming, you may want to note, is only permissible at the specially designated Swim Beach.

You can get an idea of where the Swim Beach, and other parts of the reservoir, are located by checking out the Horsetooth Brochure. It’ll also give you a glimpse at where some of the campsites are, and if you’re interested in truly taking in what Horsetooth has to offer, you’ll want to consider camping out for a while. It’ll make sense to reserve a campsite in the case, and you’ll also want to make sure you’re well packed for the occasion. Whether you stay for a day or even longer, you’re sure to have a great time at the amazing Horsetooth Reservoir.
